Check out this awesome seed starter tray with growlight!
I was so excited to be one of the 5 lucky winners to receive a very big (60 cell) seed starter tray when I attended a workshop at Homegrowers in Edenvale. The workshop was incredible, and the owner Cas, taught us how to germinate seeds using a this 24 cell seed propagation kit. If you are in the Edenvale area (Johannesburg), you should check them out because the workshops are absolutely awesome :).
This was the second workshop that I attended at Homegrowers. The first one being the hydroponics using the Kratky method). In this workshop, we learnt how to germinate seeds using these amazing seed starter kits. I bought these “jiffy” plugs which are made out of peat moss and look like flat very hard discs. As soon as I got home, the setup was very easy.
I took the “jiffy” plugs and soaked them in water. Once they had doubled in size, I then added them to each cell in the seed starter tray / Germination kit. I then poked a little hole in each jiffy and popped a couple of seeds into each one.
I also bought a 5 tray germination kit with grow lights as well and because it was so successful, I found another set on Temu.
These grow lights are so cute! They fit beautifully into the plastic lid and you can hook them up to a USB plug or even a power bank. These lights stimulate growth and mimic natural sunlight.
After spraying the seeds with a generous amount of water, using a spray bottle, I added the lids back on and waited for a few days for the magic to happen. And oh my gosh after a week, I had little seedlings sprouting. When the seedlings had two leaves, I simply lifted the jiffy and planted it into the veggie garden.
