A Court Of Thorns and Roses
It took me about a month, but I recently finished reading the ACOTAR series (A Court of Thorns and Roses) from Sarah J Maas and oh my…I couldn’t put the books down! While scrolling through Tiktok, I saw this amazing artist OddJollies, who creates stunning Air Dry Clay page holders and paints them beautifully. I wanted to buy one, but wasn’t sure if it would arrive safely (stuff goes missing all the time if delivered by our post office – just saying 🫣), or if it could be shipped to South Africa.
If you haven’t heard of ACOTAR – these books are quite “spicy” 
. I’m loving the characters and the fantasy and there’s even rumours of a movie! The AI generated fan art on TikTok is so cool as well, I’m really excited about if or when the movie will happen.
Reading on my iPad vs the Books
I bought the ACOTAR series on Amazon Kindle, and downloaded them to my iPad. Even though reading on my iPad has been quite enjoyable, I do still prefer the “feel of a book”, the smell of the paper, I don’t know there’s just something wonderful about it. :)
I’ve now started reading the Crescent City Series as well as the first book “The Assassins Blade” in the Throne of Glass Series.
When I started reading the House of Flame and Shadow, since the book is a lot heaver than my iPad, I immediately noticed the difference and thought that maybe I should invest in a page holder or even attempt to make my own out of and paint them with Acrylic paint.
I used DAS air dry clay, and rolled it out and shaped it into a rough diamond shape with a place for your thumb. Taking inspiration from “Feyre’s painting on her chest of drawers”, I created a night court for Feyre, some flames for Nesta, and flowers for Elaine. My attempt at creating my own page holders are by no means perfect, they are a little wonky and I think I’ll need to varnish them because I don’t want the paint to land up making marks on my pages. So far, they are doing the trick and it was a lot of fun for a cozy Autumn Sunday Afternoon.
